Wind Loading & Harmonics
For years our white paper, “Lighting Standards: Effects of Vibration”, has been referenced around the world, used as an educational tool, and as a basis for industry studies.
Changes in weather patterns in the last ten years have resulted in an increase of constant, low-level winds in some parts of the country. These winds cause a higher rate of harmonic vibration which over time, can cause the pole to weaken. There is currently no industry-governing body to ascertain safety standards around this issue.
Lithonia Lighting is committed to work with others in the industry to resolve harmonic vibration issues. We have recently co-sponsored a study at Virginia Tech to determine ways to alleviate the issue of pole harmonics.
